Tesla Inc. Calls 11,000 Model X SUVs Back

The American electric car maker Tesla Inc. is recalling 11, 000 Model X sport utility vehicles worldwide due to a faulty locking mechanism connected to the driver’s side rear seat and that means the seats might be pulled forward in the event of a crash.

This comes after bottleneck issues slowed down the production of the Tesla Model 3 and its CEO, Elon Musk, revealed that the company would be delaying the launch of its electric lorry.

Faulty Seat Lock Mechanism

According to the automaker company, the issue concerns vehicles which were built between October 28, 2016, and August 16, 2017, and affected a small number of cables in the second row fold-flat seats. Tesla engineers noticed the problem during internal testing. Moreover, only 3% of the recalled vehicles have the issue, Tesla said.

“Tesla is taking a proactive action to ensure the safety of some of Model X owners who may need an adjustment to their second-row seat. Model X has received the highest rating in every category and subcategory in independent safety tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and we continue to conduct our own internal testing to ensure that Model X remains the safest SUV in the world,” the company said.

Luckily, the repair is not too complex, and you can even have a Tesla technician visit you at your house if you want, it takes about 10 minutes to fix the fault, and then you can drive away safe knowing that all your car seats will stay in place,  a report said.

So far, the company had not yet received reports of any issues or accidents related to the problem.

“Although Tesla has not received reports of any issues or accidents relating to this condition, we will be conducting a voluntary recall to inspect the affected vehicles and confirm whether any adjustment is needed,” the carmaker said in a statement.

“Tesla will be utilizing its mobile repair service to conduct repairs as part of this recall, we can address 100% of these repairs via mobile service, and customers will have the choice to do that or to bring their car into a Service Center. In the past two months, we have conducted roughly 40% of the Takata airbag recall repairs via mobile service, and customer satisfaction results for our mobile service offering are consistently above 97%.”

This is not the first time that the Palo Alto, California-based Tesla to have experienced such issue. Last year, it had recalled 2, 700 Model X SUVs in the United States due to a faulty locking hinge in the third-row seats and another 53, 000 cars in April.

It had also recalled 90, 000 Model sedans worldwide in 2015 over a possible defect in the front seat belt assembly and a year earlier had recalled 29, 222 of the same model over a charging defect that posed a fire hazard.

Other automaker companies which had also undergone such problem include Nissan that announced a recall of some 1.2 million cars in Japan due to unauthorized technicians” checking their vehicles. That’s far worse than the latest Tesla recall.

Tesla’s shares were little changed at $355.64 in the extended trading on Thursday.
