AMD Shares Up On Intel Chip Flaw Reports
Advanced Micro Devices(AMD) shares rallied by almost 6% during the trading session during the beginning of the year ending a decline of almost two weeks on reports of a possible collaboration of the company between fellow chipmaker company with Intel.
However, shares of the company rallied by more than 5% during the last trading session on reports that followed revealing that processors from Intel have shown a fundamental design flaw which will affect a significant security update of Linux and Microsoft operating systems.
Reports revealed that programmers are now scrambling to overhauling the open-source Linux virtual memory system with the updates to both the Linux and Windows operating systems affecting the performance of Intel products.
However, a report have also revealed that AMD company chips would not be affected by the said security issue attributing the rally in the shares of the company. The company has declined to make a comment on the said report.
Intel, on the other hand, have released a statement which revealed that the company as well as other technology companies have been aware of the latest research on security that describes software analysts methods which has the potential to improperly gather sensitive data for malicious purposes from computing devices that are operating as designed.
Intel added that the following exploits does not have the potential to corrupt or modify, as well as delete data with previous reports stating that the exploits were caused by a flaw or a bug which are unique to incorrect Intel products.
Analysts have commented on how the issue could be addressed or resolved through the separation of the kernel’s memory from the user processes.
AMD shares have gained by almost 9% so far following the reports of the CPUs coming from the company does not carry the same issue as those coming from Intel which will affect the performance of the CPUs by as much as 5% to 30%. Shares of AMD closed 4.94% higher due to the opportunity for investors that that company may benefit from Intel’s current troubles. Shares of the company have grown in the past couple of months despite a number of reports from security researchers stating that the chips of the company are susceptible to a breach via Spectre which happens to be a wider-spread bug on a less serious level affecting processors from the chipmaker, Intel, and ARM holdings.
