Survey Shows Lesser Demand for new iPhone X

Apple iPhone X

Mere days before Apple Inc.’s highly anticipated iPhone X opens for pre-orders, a survey found that compared from previous iPhone models, the demands for the iPhone X is plentiful, not exceptional, with only a quarter of the respondents planning to buy the phone.

The survey involved 1,112 iPhone owners that are residing in United States, United Kingdom, and China. “The excitement surrounding the iPhone X appears to be magnitudes higher than actual purchase intent – 48 percent of respondents agreed/strongly agreed that they were 'excited for the iPhone X,'” said an analyst.

After the news of production delays regarding the iPhone X, Apple shares dropped last week.

With the hyped-up 10th anniversary iPhone opening for pre-orders this coming October 27 which will begin shipping by November 03, demands of the just-launched iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have been dented.

The launch of the iPhone 8 series came last month, a time when people were still waiting for the iPhone X launch, and was met with muted response from the iPhone regulars.

According to other analysts, the older iPhone 7 models surpassed the new iPhone 8’s sales.
Though doubtful of the number of iPhone users who will upgrade to the $999 iPhone X model, there was still a significant amount of people who said that they will still buy Apple’s 10th anniversary model, according to the survey.

Analysts stated, "Consumer loyalty to iPhone remains remarkably strong, despite persistent complaints about high prices and worries about declining innovation, with only 3 percent of respondents stating that their next phone would *not* be an iPhone."

Apple shares gained 0.5 percent at $157 Monday afternoon, but fell from that point by 0.91 percent at Monday’s close.

Google’s Pixel 2 Issues

iPhone’s latest rival, the second generation of Alphabet Inc.’s Google Pixel smartphones, was met  with display screen problems as well as pricing and shipping issues during its store-debut last Thursday.

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, which has a starting price of $649, is Google’s own method of directly taking on Apple Inc.’s chain of iPhones.

Users, who decided to avail of the Pixel 2 early, expressed frustration with the mishaps, which included a potentially serious problem with the screen.

Google acknowledged these complaints and said that they will conduct an investigation regarding the problems. The company said on Sunday that they will be investigating whether the graphics are burning into the display of the Pixel 2, following a report that was made after only a week of use.

Other than this issue, Google also emailed some of its Pixel 2 buyers over the weekend, saying that deliveries might be delayed up to a month, to late November. The company also swore to reimburse an undisclosed number of people after a Verizon Wireless reseller that operates at Google pop-up stores in the U.S. charged them with an extra $30 for every Pixel 2.

Google shares fell 1.9 percent to $985.54 at Monday’s close.
